Shirley James  Introduced to the game of bowling in 1956 when visiting Trench Bowling club with future husband Eric James. Eric changed clubs and became a member of Wrockwardine Wood where I have remained. I have been Vice-Chairman of the club in recent years. I was a county Player (when friendly County matches were played, A county selector and official referee for many years. I have been a County Vice-President and President also League Chairman and secretary of the Shropshire Crown Green Referees' Society since it's inauguration. Long time Captain of Wrockwardine Wood Ladies team. My claim to fame - Mother of Angela Gaut and Helen Clee both good bowlers and grandmother to Stuart and Sally Clee and Martin Gaut who are carrying on the line of bowlers. I have won several doubles competitions with long time doubles partner Shirley Jones, The Mother and Daughter comps with both Daughters a few times, and Mixed Doubles with Dale Downes Nephew, We won the Ansells Classic the only two times it was played once with Dale and once with Dave Bradburn. This year I was extremely proud as Captain of The Ladies Team to lead them to win the Triple,i.e. League, County Cup and the Doug Morrey, culminating in The County team Championships in Morecambe, In which we were losing semi-finalists.

Freda Gough    I started bowling for Coddon ladies in 1977, after a spell here I went to St Georges' for a season. I then went on to W,W,Dine Wood were I am still a player in their first division ladies. I also play in the Monday afternoon league for the Wood. I have won the Mid-Shropshire Merit and when it first started was the first lady to go to the Waterloo in Blackpool.  I have been selected and played for the county. I have won the Triples with Jo Stringer and Ann Rowley, and the Hadley Doubles with Jo Stringer. Won the Cy Lewis Doubles in 1988 with Richie Lawson and The Telford Mixed Doubles with Richie Lawson. I play in the Mid-Shropshire mens league for the Coddon Bowling Club.

Helen Clee            I started bowling at the age of Thirteen for  Trench B.C. My first league match was at Wrockwardine Wood were I got single figures against Pam Bickley now Brown.  I had a short spell at H.U.S.C but have otherwise bowled for Wrockwardine Wood. I have won the Husband and Wife on a number of occasions with Phil and have won many competitions including the County Merit and B.C.G.L.B.A. National Pairs with Sister Angela Gaut in 2000. I have played for England and also play regularly for Shropshire in the County Ladies team. I have won the mother and Daughter with Shirley James and have also won the league Averages in the Ladies Division  

             

Lisa Pessall

Marion Buckley  Age 61 Married to Neal who also bowls for Wrockwardine Wood. Following Neal's encouragement, started bowling in 1968. Plays for Wrockwardine Wood in Shrewsbury ladies league, in the Afternoon league and in the 5th division Mid Shropshire league. Also played for the county for the first time in 1976 and was part of a team of twelve that won the Championship in 1980. She gave up county bowling some years later when travelling became a problem. Won the Roy Oldcorn in 1980 and County Husband and Wife in 1982. Was secretary of the ladies section for many years and also for the Trustees of the recreation ground. Was extremely proud to be appointed the first lady chairman of the club in 1976. she has never played for any other club.

 

Ann Rowley       Started Bowling in 1968 at W.W.B.C. When the ladies league was formed in 1973 joined John Maddocks until 1978 when The Wood also had a team in the league. Was the losing finalist in first county merit in 68. Amongst the many competitions won have been County Merit 5, Runner up 5 times. Ladies All England 1979 runner up. Ladies County Doubles, winner with Sheila Morgan this is the first year it was played, went on to win 3 times more Runner up twice. County Mixed Runner up 1986 partner Neal Buckley. Telford Ladies Doubles winner twice, Partners Jo Walker and Chris Jones, runner up once. Roy Oldcorn winner twice runner up twice. Telford Mixed With partner Ray Smith Winner once. Husband and Wife runner up 1986.Bates and Hunt Winner Twice runner up once. St Georges Fours winners twice. Knypersley floodlit open Winner once runner up once. Pontesbury Ladies runner up once. Shropshire Star Comp Winner twice runner up twice. Ladies Triples winners in 1989 with Jo-an and Freda. Played for the county from 1969 to 1993 Won 24 lost 27. League average winner twice runner up twice.
